About John

Spent 4 years in the Air Force followed by several years at a southern Oregon municipality.  Has been in the forest grove area for over 48 years.  Was a Division manager at a municipality for 30 years as well as a local volunteer fireman for 30 years and retired as a Division Chief.

Started woodworking in his 4o’s.  For his 50 th birthday he received enough to purchase some white perk boards to build his dream chair. A craftsman stickler reclining arm chair.

Two years went by without touching the wood. His wife asked why he hadn’t stated working on it. He said he was afraid to make a mistake.  She then reminded him that it was only wood and he could always out has more. OMG, the light went on and he finished his chair 6 months later. After that he went on to build a craftsman style k8ng size bed with mortise and tenon joints on all 88 spindles. Took three men to get them all lined up in their respective slots.

Since then he has started using a laser to cut and engrave wood. He know has a portable laser engraver that he plans on using in public areas as the laser has laser has laser shielded glass and a smoke exhaust recovery system to prevent fumes going into the open air.
